1978 Honda XR75 Project

I have wanted a Honda XR75 since 1973. It took 40 years but I finally got one. It's a 1978 in need of some work. It's a little rusty, forks are bent, front rim is dented, massive oil leak at the head and missing a front number plate. The engine has spark and a reasonable amount of compression. Other than that, it's complete (right number plate and air box are missing in the photo, but I do have them). Here is the bike as I received it.

My plan is to clean it up, make it run and change the suspension to long travel. At this point, I am not painting it, maybe next winter. Any changes will be bolt-on, I lack fabrication tools and skill, plus, I want to keep the core of the big original so that if someone wanted to they could do a full restore.

I will track my progress on this blog. My only goal is to have it on the dirt some time in the spring. I will try to list my sources as I find them. I will keep a separate modification tab for easy review.

The video below shows a long travel XR75, this is my goal for the suspension but my XR75 will not look anywhere near as clean.

Winter Projects

Winter projects have begun. The top picture is the engine from a 1978 XR75 that I picked up over the summer. Needless to say, it had an oil leak. The bottom picture is from my sons 2005 CR250. A full top and bottom rebuild are in the works. I would say that he has a better starting point than I do.
